Song Of The Fallen (2017)

"Song of the Fallen" was written in honor and remembrance of Abigail McElroy and Zachary Kibort, two incredible young people and musicians from the St. Louis, Missouri area, and two of Marcus Barnes' greatest friends that both passed away in 2015 at young ages. Abby was an outstanding musician and played the Flute, Piccolo, Violin, and Piano. Zach was an exceptional trumpet player. They both were people that were always a joy to be around and definitely touched so many lives in the St. Louis, MO and surrounding areas music community. In this piece, they are both represented by solos of the instruments they played: Flute and Piccolo for Abby and Trumpet for Zach. The Piano, Euphonium, and French Horn solos represent Marcus and his saddened response to the loss of his friends. This piece was written in hope that they could be remembered in the best way Marcus Barnes knew how, through music which was such important part in both of their lives.
