Luminescence (2019)
brass choir (medium-advanced, grade 4.5)
approx. duration: 5 minutes, 30 seconds
"Luminescence" is a brass choir work that is composed based off of recurring harmonic progressions. The work was written to start with a bright, dissonant interval of a second between trumpet 1 and 2. As the work progresses, the work continues to contrast between bright sections and darker moments. The opening motif from the euphonium is the main motivic idea that is the foundation for all melodic material that follows. The work simply allows the contrast of brightness and darkness that brass instruments can create to be featured and depict a constant since of illumination, brilliance, and contrasting dullness.
